The Breakfast Club

Recently I watched the movie, The Breakfast Club. I watched it because everyone was saying how amazing it was and I wanted to see for myself.
In the movie I had no clue what was going on and why because there was no interesting plot line or even just a regular plot line that I could see. The movie is basically about a bunch of people in detention for different reasons who become friends. No major ups or downs. I don't see the excitement, mystery or amazingness in that.
When I ask people why they like it they never have an answer and when I tell them that I don't think there is a very good plot line they usually think about it and agree with me.
I think the only reason everyone all of a sudden started watching it is because of Pitch Perfect where it was sort of advertised, and then it spread that it was simply the most amazing movie and you have to watch it, but I think the only reason people like it is because everyone else does, so it's like something you have to like.
I'm sorry if I am offending any Breakfast Club "fans" but this is my opinion and if you have a reason why you do like The Breakfast Club, then please share with me because I really want to understand the movie better and why everyone is so obsessed with it.
